How to protect your software and its interfaces?

Philippe Laurent participated in the “Innov’Action” event and gave a speech on software protection. Whereas copyright is the “natural way” to protect source and binary code, patents are frequently considered to keep technical, novel and innovative functionalities exclusive. The graphical user interface is also a valuable asset that is worth some specific attention: copyright, trademarks and design rights could apply to many different visual elements (backgrounds, fonts, , icons, logos, original window frames, dashboards, etc.). The main aspects of these IP rights have been explained, illustrated with many examples. (The slides are available on the website of the event at this address:  http://innovaction.be/fr/conferences/14/2).
